Which is more or less exactly the same as the native build I did which is 
installed in /usr/local - I want to completely replace the perl 5.005 
installation which is part of the standard OS package.

I don't think I used CPAN to install 5.8.7, but I might try that too if 
the server doesn't run out of memory during the build.

Ah ok well I might avoid it then.
